ABOUT US

Keolamauloa - main residence

Keolamauloa is a 4 acre family homestead located on the Hamakua Coast of the Big Island, at a cool elevation of 1800 feet. The mountain neighborhood of Pa’auilo Mauka is dotted with verdant pasturelands and old family homesteads…evidence of the community’s rich agricultural and cattle ranching history. The Lundburg family originally moved to Keolamauloa in 1983, where they began the restoration of the existing historic buildings and grounds. They raised a large family and over the past 30 years, have worked to nurture and perpetuate a shared vision of sustainable living.

Kaye & Rod

Kaye & Rod at Ka Malu o Niupe’a

Kaye, (Sally’s mom), is often at Keolamauloa. She manages the homestead guest rental, and stops by frequently to check on the growing trees, and trade honey for eggs and veggies. She and Rod live nearby, where they manage Ka Malu o Niupe’a – the restoration of a 40 acre native forest. Kaye is passionate about stewardship, and is excited to share what she has learned. • From our Guestbook

If you want to get away from the commercial touristic experience of Hawaii this is the place to stay at. The two-bedroom rental is charming and fully functional with full kitchen, outside BBQ and Hot tub! This place will give you a sense of the local life style, making you feel at home and never wanting to leave. I have stayed twice at the Keolamauloa farm and my wife and I can't wait to come back.

This is our favorite place to stay on the island. The property is warm and inviting, and even has a hot tub! They're solar operated, grow several varieties of fruits and veggies, have a huge pet pig, a chicken coop, etc. This part of the island also has endless opportunity for exploration.
